Death Battle Prediction: Baki Hanma Vs Ohma Tokita

"If you always put a limit on everything you do, physical or anything else,, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there. You must go beyond them."

The struggle to achieve the title of "Greatest of all time" is something a cosmically small amount of people can achieve with even fewer in the world of martial arts. The path for this glory is littered in broken dreams, failed ambition, blood, sweat, and tears but those who do manage to come close to grasping this title are driven by an insurmountable amount of willpower and dedication.

Much like Baki Hanma, the son of The Orge and champion of the Underground Arena, and Ohma Tokita, the master of the Niko Style and the Ashura of Kengan Arena. Whose strength, skill, and determination can overcome the other in an underground match to end all underground matches?

NOTES

Both Baki and Kengan are still ongoing with Kengan having more plot related spoilers in this blog, you have been warned.

History

Baki Hanma

刃牙」シリーズ公式/シリーズ第5部「バキ道」連載中! on Twitter | Martial arts anime, Anime smile, Grappler

The history of the strongest family stems thousands of years back with relics from ancient times recounting superhuman men with a conviction for fighting and back like a grinning demon.

This is the Hanma bloodline, a family whose strength and prowess as a martial artist pass from superhuman into something more akin to a monster, a demon, an orge if you will.

While there have been a plethora of notable Hanma fighters, few have reached the levels of infamy of Yujiro Hanma, "The Orge" who even in infancy was destined for violence with his first murder being a rare Kokoe Poison Dart Frog which traveled from South America to Japan in an attempt to kill Yujiro but was quickly crushed to death in his hands.

By the time Yujiro was 16 he set off to fight in Vietnam to test his skills and would meet a woman named Diane, after raging war against the US military the US government no longer wishing further conflict with Yujiro decided to form an alliance with Yujiro.

After returning to Japan, Yujiro would take the wife of a Yakuza crime lord as his lover with one goal, to use her to create a child that would one day be a suited rival for Yujiro.

And soon his son Baki Hanma was born.

Baki was born with one goal in life, to get stronger so that one day he could fight as his father's equal and gain the love of his parents. By the time Baki was thirteen he already trained with the best sports equipment, advanced training equipment and personal gym trainers money could buy but it wasn't enough and so he moved on to more unique forms of training, he would seek out matches against A-list fighters, battle a beast in the forest known as the Yasha Ape, and the massive sixteen year old Yakuza boss. But during his fight with Hanayama Baki was reunited with his father who brutally assaulted the two before leaving. Shortly after during one of Baki's training sessions Yujiro surprised Baki once more, now with the head of the Yasha Ape Baki befriended stuffed in a box along announcing that he would fight Baki in one months time.

To improve his training Baki meet with his fathers comrade, Gerry Strydum, who would help Baki meet stronger foes, mainly he brought him to a forest where five strong soldiers lead by a man named Gaia who would help train him... by trying to kill him. Eventually, Baki overcame these men and even learned under them while discovering the near-death focus and soon the time came where he faced his father only to discover that despite all his training he could not so much as scratch his father and as he suffered a brutal beating from Yujiro his mother unable to bear watching her son being brutalized stepped in and displayed her first act of love for Baki by defending him Yujiro only to suffer a quick painful death at her husband's hands.

The rage he had to his father became complete hatred and Baki set off to train once more but with a different goal, to defeat his father.

During his new quest, Baki would come across the world of Underground Arena located under the Tokyo Dome ran by Mitsunari Tokugawa and fought and defeated various opponents reigning as its champion until Tokugawa revealed that he was organizing a great martial arts tournament, known as the Maximum Tournament. Many of the world's greatest fighters some who would ally themselves with Baki later on entered the tournament, such as the "Tiger Slayer" Doppo Orochi,  "The Master" Gouki Shibukawa, "Sea-King" Kaioh Retsu from China, and a strange underground pit fighter named Jack Hammer.

During the finals, Baki discovered the man he would be facing, Jack Hammer's true name was actually Jack Hanma, the son of Diane who Yujiro forced to carry his child as punishment for betraying him. The two brothers entered the most brutal exhausting fight seen in the Tokyo Dome and when all was said and done, Baki reigned champion.

Baki would continue to face new foes and discover new ways of training, he entered the Ratai Tournament, trained against a giant imaginary praying mantis, fought the strongest prisoner in the world, and battled the recently unfrozen caveman who made a meal out of previous fighters but all of this was stepping stones until he and his father had their rematch. And after years and years of training, the strongest father-son quarrel captivated not just fighters but the entire world, and in this brawl, Baki managed to achieve his goal from all those years ago, he earned some semblance of love from his father in that moment.

Despite losing against his father, Yujiro gave him the title of "World's Strongest" but Baki continues to train and fight to this day in a seemingly never-ending journey to overcome his father.

Tokita Ohma

"You wanna fight, too?"

"The Inside" is a lawless territory in Japan formed in and around 1868, the region has no rules and is full to the brim with all kinds of vices including, but not limited to, drugs, violence and prostitution. After effectively abandoning the area in 19XX, the Japanese government refers to it exclusively as the "Illegally Occupied Territories", and puts out propaganda saying that it is filled with a noxious gas where no-one can survive, in order to disguise the truth and avoid mass panic.

Inside this kill or be kill environment one man rose above the others with the intention of using his strength and martial art skills to save the people of the inside, this man was Gaoh Mukaku. The creator of the Gaoh Martial art he intended to unite the people with his martial skill over the course of 30 years but despite his strength, he failed.

So instead of saving the entirety of the inside with his Gaoh Style, Gaoh Mukaku decided to save a handful of orphans with high martial arts aptitude and named them all "Niko Tokita", after two of the districts of the Inside. His purpose in doing so was for the Niko's to all act independently in the same name, in order to build up a legend, though many of these Niko's ended up dying in the forest of Gakigahara.

Though two notable Nikos managed to survive, one of which would find an orphan within the inside much like them, a young feral boy who had no name, after saving this young boy he gave him the name Ohma Tokita and began to train him in the Niko Style.

Years passed and as Ohma was taught the secret techniques of the Niko style he encountered The Other Tokita Niko, a man who had complete mastery of the Niko style much like Ohma's adoptive father.

When The Other Niko revealed his knowledge of the Niko Style, he overwhelmed Ohma in a brief series of blows before bestowing the Possessing Spirit upon him; a "god" now dwelt within him. Frustrated and bewildered, Ohma fell unconscious and returned to normal as The Other Niko left, calling him a "Tiger's Vessel".

When he awoke Ohma entered a blinding rage, brutally tearing through the land searching for The Other Niko and came across a young man named Setsuna Kiryu whom he brutally assaulted nearly killing him in the process, though Niko quickly arrived and was able to subdue Ohma knocking him out, but as Ohma lost consciousness he saw that The Other Niko had returned. As he awoke he disovered that not only had several of memories had been sealed off and found his master lying on the ground with his killer, Genzan Taira, and Setsuna overlooking them. Niko saved his last breath for Ohma before passing away. From that day forth, Ohma devoted his life to finding Genzan and killing him.

Years passed and Ohma figured the best way to discover his master's killer was to enter the Kengan Association, a prestigious business association that would settle differences by having their representative fighters dual in an underground arena and after defeating Komada to take his spot as an affiliate fighter for the Nogi Group. Though during this fight from around the corner one unremarkable man noticed this fight, a middle-aged divorced salaryman for the Nogi Group, Kazuo Yamashita. The next few days Ohma was appointed as the Nogi Groups fighter with Kazuo Yamashita seemingly mysterious made his manager.

After several victories in the Kengan Arena, the chairman Metsudo Katahara suddenly arrived with Nogi in tow and announced the creation of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. Ohma's excitement grew, knowing that Genzan Taira would not miss the opportunity to fight in such a tournament. However, months later after a full recovery and now a member of Kazuo Yamashita's company Ohma was confronted by Setsuna Kiryu the student of Genzan, who had revealed that Genzan was already killed by him. Ohma entered the tournament with a new goal, to prove he was the strongest.

He fought hard throughout the tournament both in the ring and during the attempted coup of the Kengan Association by a group of underground criminals tied to the Niko Style known as "The Worms". He had many victories and would even regain his memories but would meet his match at the hands of a karate master who was also connected to the Niko Style, Kuroki Gensai.

Despite Ohma being in near-critical condition from his last fight, he was saved by an emergency heart transplant and spent two years recovering in the Kure Clan's remote village. After reuniting with Kazuo he re-entered the world of underground martial arts, just in time to help the Kengan team battle against Purgatory.

Powers/Abilities

Baki Hanma

Hanma Lineage

Baki:Hanma Baki, Vol.23, Chapter 184 : A Hanma Brain - Baki Manga Online

The root of Bakis's incredible fighting talent and ever-growing strength stems from his lineage of the Hanma bloodline. This altered antimony results in a unique skeletal structure with denser bones, a distinctive brain formation, and an abnormal amount of erythrocytes produced throughout the body as well as being able to manipulate their own biology to some extent.

Many Hanma family members have also shown resistance to electricity, poisons, and various drugs, with Baki, even claiming that his father can't be harmed by diseases such as cancer and AIDS with it even being stated that no virus or bacteria can harm him.

While Baki isn't entirely on the same level as his father in these regards he has shown a resistance to drugs like his half brother Jack who had surpassed all negative effects of steroids, Baki was able to endure the impact of Yanagi's Poison Hand for some time before eventually curing himself despite that all doctors who had encountered it believes there was no cure.

Fighting Ability

Baki:Hanma Baki, Vol.37, Chapter 303 : How To Make A Fist - Baki Manga Online

Much like his grandfather, father, and half-brother, Baki is one of the most talented martial artists in the world, trained since birth, Baki growth was so exceptional that by the time he was 13 conventional methods of training such as martial art instructors and weight equipment no longer made a difference so he moved on to more creative methods of training (Throwing himself off cliffs, running with a boulder on his back, fighting gorillas, eating teeth you know to get that calcium).

Baki encounter and studying of martial arts have given him an innate understanding of combat that he can gather someone specialty of fighting from one punch, like when he was able to tell a judo master was faking a striking stance after one strike and is able to fight solely on instinct with his body moving on his own to the point where those who are able to predict attacks could not.

Baki specializes in using a variety of techniques from various fighting styles incorporating moves from Karate, Chinese Kung Fu, Boxing, Muay Thai, Military Combat, and more unconventional abilities like studying cockroaches.

He has a solid understanding of antimony and how to exploit it such as striking someone in the jaw at just the right speed to rattle their brain around, deduce a apes anomty to be close to that of humans, or put pressure on someones windpipe to instantly knock them out.

By the time he was 17, he had mastered countless techniques being able to perfectly replicate any attack after seeing it in action once, even the personal fighting style of someone who doesn't know martial arts, having achieved a "Black Belt" in it in mere moments and surpassing the original fighter by the end of the fight.

Techniques

  • Rear-Nake Chokehold: A chokehold meant to cut off the circulation of blood flow to someone's brain.
  • Roll Kick: A sidekick after rolling over to his opponent.
  • Bow and Arrow: A pro wrestling hold which can strangle or break an opponent's neck.
  • Slap: Just a standard slap usually meant to annoy someone.
  • Axe Kick: Baki raises his leg into the air and quickly brings it down like an axe crashing into an opponent.
  • Armlock: Baki grabs an opponent by the arm and slams them to the ground while pressing their legs to their back.
  • Suplex: Baki grabs his opponent with both arms from behind, then he throws him backward and slams him to the ground.
  • Soccer Ball Kick: Baki delivers a high kick.
  • Tiger King: After intercepting a punch, Baki climbs on his opponents, kicking them in the chin while putting them in an armlock
  • Crotch kick: Baki kicks someone in the dick.
  • Enzuriguri: Baki delivers a flying kick to an opponent's neck.
  • New Cobra: Baki stretches out an opponent while locking them with one leg and one arm.
  • Seiken: An essential Karate move which is a straight punch shot from the waist.
  • Piledriver: Baki jumps into the air while holding an opponent and then slams them into the ground.
  • Shining Wizard: Baki delivers a flying knee strike.
  • Spinning Lotus: A technique originally used by Chines Kung Fu Master Retsu, Baki latches onto the opponent's shoulders, holding the head between his legs and proceeds to rotate with the head locked to the legs to snap the neck.
  • Front Neck Lock: Baki wraps his arm around his opponent's neck and with all with strength pulls back while constricting.
  • Goutaijutsu: The improved version of the Seiken, Baki stiffens his body to its utmost limits on the moment of impact capable of breaking skin as hard as iron.

Near-Death Focus

After throwing himself off a cliff (Just go with it) Baki has learned to master the state described as: "That moment only comes when you are about to meet death, but if you can control every moment," giving Baki enhanced reflexes.

Endorphin Release

During his fight with the Yasha, Ape Baki learned the ability to increase endorphin levels in order to boost one's durability and pain resistance by twisting his right ear. However, there are limits to how much pain it can delay, such as with Yujiro's whip technique.

Cord Cutter
A technique created by Kohshi Shingoi which revolves around cutting an opponent's optic nerves with their fingers. With it, Baki can sever tendons, nerves, and other cords within the human body.

While Baki originally used it to repair his severed nerves in his fight with Shingoi, he can also use it to temporarily blind someone by severing their ocular nerve.

Benda

Image result for baki whip strike gif

A technique Yujiro taught Baki at a young age which is a self-defense technique meant for women and children, where Baki loosens up the whole body and treats it like a whip and then swings one of his limbs, tearing off someone top layer of flesh, causing intense amounts of pain that even top tier fighters like Baki and Pickle have a hard time withstanding.

Mach Punch

A technique created by Katsumi Orochi, which is an extremely fast punch executed using the progressive movement of the big toe, ankle, knee, hip, waist, shoulder, elbow, and wrist, easily breaks the sound barrier.

While the attack is very powerful, overexerting this attack can cause damage to his arm and can even destroy the arm if overused.

Hand Pocket

A technique likened to that of a Samurai's quick draw, Baki hides his hands in the pockets, then he performs a surprise attack with a quick swift move, often taking an opponent off guard. While effective, someone familiar with this attack can counter it.

0.5 Second Unconscious

Image result for baki .5 Unconscious

In Tor Nørretrander's book, Nørretranders states that people are triggered half a second earlier than the brain orders to move.

For example, a knife is flying towards someone who is triggered, but still unconscious. 0.5 seconds later, the brain orders to move, and the action comes, which gives a window of opportunity to be attacked for 0.5 seconds.

This attack can be countered by someone using the same technique.

Cockroach Dash

Image result for baki cockroach dash

During his fight with Biscuit Oliva, when Baki was about to lose consciousness, he seemed to melt as his muscles relax before snapping back together. Later by sigh... by studying a dying cockroach's ability to dash with its liquid muscle, Baki learned to dash forward at 168 MPH with an acceleration of 00.01 milliseconds by imagining his muscles being a liquid.

This attack is incredibly powerful, being able to not only damage his father Yujiro but even knocking him off his feet.

Triceratops Fist

In order to combat the recently unfrozen caveman named Pickle (Yes) Baki developed an attack based on prehistoric beasts. Baki leans his upper body forward, puts his right leg back, and clenches both his fists to make a stance looking like the shape of Triceratops.

Despite of a fact that Baki's weight is about 70 kilos, the weight of that attack is exceeded 100 kilos, and the power is strong enough to push over a car. Baki can make another version of this technique that imitates other prehistoric creatures, such as a Pteranodon or a T-rex.

Aiki

Did Baki just use Niko-style (ik it's called aiki in the Baki franchise): Kengan_Ashura

A secret technique of ancient jujutsu first used by Gouki which is a martial arts principle or tactic in which the defender blends (without clashing) with the attacker, then go on to dominate the assailant through the strength of their application of internal dynamics or Ki energy to affect techniques.

It makes the opponent feel an incredible amount of pressure on their back like they are being crushed or have a giant condom full of water strapped to their back.

While a remarkable technique, it has limits as it can be countered by the same technique or simply by overwhelming strength, such as in Shibukawa's match against Kyogei.

Imagination

One of Baki's odder abilities is his imagination; he is capable of imagining and even outright interact to some degree with mental visualizations of creatures and individuals to develop new stances and techniques without the need of them physically being there. Baki can even mix and match different fighters from his interactions with them in the past, such as Iron Michael and even Yujiro.

However, there is a limit to what he can replicate as those with complex enough antimony like Pickle.

Aura

Image result for baki triceratops

In the Baki universe, many fighters are capable of exuding their aura, often intimidating others. Baki was able to scare his whole classroom despite being unconscious and caused a swarm of rats to flee unknowingly.

However, Baki can manipulate his aura like no other fighter in the series, creating downright illusions, such as replicating various animals, even dinosaurs, and can even mix and match to create an entirely new monster.

Willpower Projection

When on death's door, Baki is able to somehow project his own willpower to act on its own, he once used this to bring himself back to life after his pulse stopped and used this once more in his ultimate fight with his father projecting what his next attack would have been.

Ohma Tokita

Niko Style

Developed by Gaoh Mukaku as an improved version of the Gaoh style, he passed the Niko style onto the many "Tokita Niko's" he fostered; while many died throughout WWll a handful of practitioners of the Niko style managed to pass on their teachings to future generations such as with Tokita Niko and Ohma.

The Niko style is an all-encompassing martial art with a high focus on adaptability and applicability; many of the techniques are not set patterns, but rather basic principles which can be applied in multiple situations.

In order to perform different techniques, the Niko style is encompassed of four different katas, fire, water, adamantine, and redirection and each can be combined for entirely new techniques.

The adaptability of Ohma's fighting style is one of his greatest strengths as an incredibly observant fighter he can match against many different opponents in a variety of settings, such as shifting someone's weight redirecting their flow of power to send them off balance or even dislocate their shoulder, can target and attack specific organs, and could not only out predict Cosmo's foresight during the zone (Which lasts 0.1 seconds) but was able to pin him and choke him out with his own arm, his training also make it's difficult for opponents to read his rhythm by switching up his maneuvers making his attacks unpredictable.

Adamantine Kata

Adamantine Kata is a kata that revolves around tightening one's muscles to briefly harden their body for defensive and offensive-based techniques.

Indestructible: The primary technique of Adamantine Kata which allows the user to either defend from powerful blows or attack the opponent with immense power, through instantaneously clenching all of their muscles at the moment of impact; tensing and tightening of the muscles increases the solidity and density of the user's body, thus preventing the impact of outside attacks from inflicting much, if any, damage. However, the technique is only indestructible in name as powerful blows still damage Ohma and can even break through his defense.

Flying Axe Kick: A flying kick enhanced by the Adamantine Kata. The resulting force is able to stagger the likes of Takeshi Wakatsuki one of the strongest characters in the series.

Ironbreaker: A strike-enhancing technique that is delivered while tensing and tightening the muscles in the user's hands or feet. It is so powerful that it can leave an impression of one's fist in their foe's body. And while Ohma has not shown it yet, is is likely he can use the Ironbreaker Barrage which is a continuous barrage of Ironbreaker enhanced strike.

Iron Fingers: A technique that involves tightening the muscles in the fingers thereby hardening the joints of the fingers. It has many applications such as jabbing against vitals, a bone-breaking pinching hold, or can even repair fingers to some extent if damaged. The Gaoh, which is considered an inferior version could even pierce flesh with this technique.

Bone Binding: The ultimate technique of Adamantine Kata which by using precise and delicate muscle control, the user is able to move body parts where a bone has been broken such as Ohma did after having bones in his right hand broken by Cosmo.

Flame Kata

I bring you, Baki using the 4 Katas (Spoilers of Son of Ogre): Kengan_Ashura

Flame Kata is a kata that puts focus on movement and positioning increasing the user's speed, evasiveness and maneuverability.

Flashfire: The primary move of Flame Kata is an evasive style of movement that allows for the user to flicker like a flame. This technique is able to confuse the enemy by creating afterimages of one's self. However, it can be predicted by a skilled enough opponent or someone with fast enough reaction time.

Raging Fire: A sprinting technique that is performed after digging their toes into the ground, allowing them to accelerate at unthinkable speeds.

Earth-Shrinking: The ultimate technique of Flame Kata, is Earth-Shriking with the essence of the technique laying in "standing on one's bones alone" without the use of the muscles. It relies on shifting one's center of gravity to move, with its "interval" visibly different from regular motions. It yields the illusion that the user is backstepping and the distance between the user and the opponent suddenly shrinking.

Redirection Kata

One of Ohma's most used forms of Kata, it involves seeing and manipulating the "flow of power", using minimal motions to turn the opponent's attacks against them. As a result, this kata requires incredible kinetic vision and delicate physical control.

Weeping Willow: The most basic move of the Redirection Kata, Weeping Willow alters the trajectory of their opponent's attack by redirecting their flow of power, the user can make their opponent's attacks miss as well as make an opponent lose their balance, allowing an opening for an attack. However, powerful enough strikes can completely negate this.

Change of Scenery: A twisting throw that hurls an opponent into the air.

Chi Blockage: A powerful palm strike that was originally created to destroy the nerves. However, it can also be used to suppress the autonomic nervous system sealing off someone's memories that can only be removed by someone with a similar skill.

Entanglement: The advanced form of Weeping Willow, which instead of redirecting their flow of power to make them lose balance the user holds onto them while doing so, the user can redirect the power back into their opponent. This can result in dislocating joints.

Flowing Edge: A defensive technique that deflects an attack's trajectory by applying power to its side. It can be used to deflect a barrage of attacks or even projectiles (such as bullets or a whip) by calculating the angle of incidence of the projectile and creating an angle to deflect the projectile off of hard bone in order to change the projectile's trajectory.

Marionette: The ultimate technique of Redirection Kata, Marionette recharges the body's internal power and control their body with limited use of energy by using autopathy to break down his bodies housing proteins, enabling them to move and fight while having extremely depleted stamina. However, it only gives Ohma so much stamina and can be depleted at the same levels.

Water Kata

Comicvine Martial Arts Tournament RD2:Streak619(Ohma) vs King_Ragnar(Iron Fist) - Battles - Comic Vine

Water Kata is designed around grappling putting emphasis on flexibility and fluidity of motion, by focusing on Water Kata Ohma was not only capable of contending with Cosmo Imai a prodigy fighter and one of the greatest grapplers in the world but even outpace him at the end.

Bind of Pisces: A unique armbar that involves immobilizing the opponent's arms by pinning one arm by their head with one's legs and the other arm with one's hands. However, if performed imperfectly an opponent can still attack and break out of said hold.

Dancing Snake: A evasive technique where the user bends his entire body backward to avoid the opponent's attack.

Guiltone: A throw technique that is performed while the opponent is off-balance, the user then grabs the front of their opponent's neck with both hands (while facing in the opposite direction to them) and then violently pulls and lifts their opponent's body up off the ground using their neck as a lever, heavily damaging the opponent's neck.

Jellyfish Clutch: A grappling technique where the user runs at the opponent and catches them in a headlock, leaning down using the momentum of their run. This movement is used to viciously snap the opponent's neck back.

Screw Cutter Jizo: A technique that, while the opponent is off-balance in a supine position, the user grabs their opponent's arm with both hands, before flipping them over into a prone position and then tightly holding that arm in a manner similar to an armlock that also involves sitting on the opponent's shoulder.

Seagrass Hold: A technique used to evade and then lock a thrusting movement; the user quickly dodges a thrusting weapon or thrusting attack and grabs and locks the offending weapon/limb under their armpit in one fluid motion.

Water Dragon's Vein: A technique very similar to the bow and arow hold where the user lies on their back with their arms clutching their opponent's neck and knees, and their legs pushing up on their opponent's back. This causes loss of consciousness within seven seconds, due to the carotid sinus reflex while damaging ones organs, though it has been surmised that the true purpose of this technique is to snap the opponent's spine so even if someone is capable of breaking out they often retain internal damage.

Water Mirror: The ultimate technique of the Water Kata, Water Mirror can be used when the user can't use their normal locks and holds, such as if they had broken their arm. This technique involves using a part of their opponent's body to place their opponent in a lock or a hold. Because there is no specific form for Water Mirror, it allows the user to be flexible and change the way they use it in a fight situation. For instance, in Ohma's battle with Imai Cosmo, Ohma grabbed Cosmo's arm and used it to put him in a chokehold; he also dislocated Cosmo's shoulder and broke his wrist to prevent him from escaping.

Nii Kata

A separate form of Kata which is a compilation of breathing exercises.

The Void: A breathing exercise similar to Ibuki breathing and neigong, which involves deep exhalations through increasing the abdominal pressure, focusing awareness towards the body's meridian. This is used as a means of concentration and internal regulation.

Another form of training Ohma is capable of is image training and rote learning during sleep, Ohma's brain has developed the ability to "act without thinking" by the experiences gained from having fought over 40,000 imaginary battles in his mind, though the fighters he imagines are only based on his limited knowledge of said fighter and so are far less powerful than the real thing.

Combination Kata

By combining certain aspects from different Katas together, Ohma is capable of creating entirely new techniques that combine the strengths of said Katas. However, as evident during his witness of Watasuki's battle against Fei, there are still combination techniques that he is unaware of.

Fire Water: Fire Water: A combination of the Flame and Water Katas, Fire Water which is a rapid transition from a forward dash to a low tackle, evading any incoming attacks while aiming to tackle the opponent to the ground at the same time. However, it can still be countered by a quick enough opponent

Flashing Steel: A combination of Raging Fire and Indestructible, Flashing Steel is the fastest attack of the Niko Style. It involves charging the opponent at a high speed and delivering a blow with tightened muscles. The momentum and hardness interact to make for a devastating blow; it's best used as a counter, utilizing both the opponent's and the user's momentum to maximize inflicted damage. However, despite its speed, its linearity makes it predictable. It comes in three variations, Pierce which is a finger stab, Smash which is a punch, and Blast that is a elbow blow.

Flickering Flame: A combination of Flame and Redirection Katas, Flickering Flame is a technique that shifts the user's center of gravity when at full sprint, enabling the user to change directions mid-dash immediately and still maintain top speed. The technique puts a heavy strain on the legs, however.

Ironbreaker Revolution: A combination of the Adamantine and Water Katas, Ironbreaker Revolution is where the user first throws their opponent to the ground and immediately follows up with a revolved Ironbreaker punch. This is an incredibly powerful finisher being able to defeat Raain with said technique.

Swimming Swallow: A combination of the Redirection and Water Katas, Swimming Swallow is a rush of blows with unpredictable and quickly-altering trajectories, making them incredibly difficult to guard against. However, it can be countered by skilled enough or simply especially tanky opponents

Will-O'-the-Wisp: Using the principles of both the Redirection and Flame Katas, Will-O'-the-Wisp is a turning sidekick and that redirects the flow of the kick into a full-body stomp. The attack is powerful enough to smash a hole into the ground when utilized.

Secret Technique: Demonsbane

One of the secret techniques of the Niko style which is an application of all four katas acting as one. As such, can only be performed by someone who has mastered all four. The training for the technique requires the user to have experienced the heightened sense of awareness that comes with a near-death experience.

Demonsbane is also a formless move, making it deceptively deadly because no matter what attack the opponent performs, the user can divert and return it back with more power. However, the move does have a few weaknesses: besides having to be a master of the Niko Style, the Redirection and Water Katas are key to achieve the move in the first place. If the Redirection Kata is used improperly, the flow of the attack won't change and will instead hit the user. If the Water Kata is used improperly and their body is not completely relaxed, the flow of the attack will move randomly in the user's body, damaging themselves or lowering the damage of the final attack.

The risk is worth it though as when used properly, it can devastate powerful opponents like their a kid or turn the tide of a fight around in one move against a much stronger opponent like Wakatsuki.

Advanced Senses

Due to his time on the inside along with his training under Niko, Ohma has an incredibly advanced sense being able to see the flow of power, his sense of hearing is also advance enough to be able to pick up the faintest of sounds over the screams of the crowd. When blinded in his fight against Kaburagi he was able to rely on his hearing alone to identify his sound to the point where he could ignore his fake-out and follow up with a counter.

During his two years in the Kure village, Ohma learned how to use his advanced vision to read someone's lips from a distance.

Aura Intimidation/Reading

Early on in the series Ohma was capable of intimidating two thugs harassing Kazuo with his bloodlust alone.

Ohma also has shown a talent for reading the aura of others trying to conceal their strength such as Inaba Ryo, as well as sensing Raain's approaching bloodlust.

Transformation

Baki Hanma

Demon Face

The greatest ability one of the Hanma bloodline may possess is the Demon Back. A "transformation" in which Baki very forcefully flexes his latissimus dorsi muscles to form the face of a demon.

Some members like Bakis's father Yujiro is capable of absorbing virtually any hit, such as when Yuujiro Hanma ceased taking damage from Kaku Kaiou's Offensive Shaorii strikes, which by was using the strength of Yujiros own strength to damage him and even forced him to briefly retreat.

In this state, Bakis's strength, speed, and stamina excel exceptionally to the point where he can fight against opponents he previously stood little chance against, like Jack, Biscuit Oliva, and even his father Yujiro.

Tokita Ohma

Advance

I coloured Ohma's advance: Kengan_Ashura

Gear 2nd Advance or Possessing Spirit is a special technique and the 'other half of the Niko Style. By overclocking his heart, Ohma's speed, acceleration, torque increase to the point that it also increases his damage output. At its maximum output, his speed and power drastically increase with each use but, because of how it works, it originally prevented Ohma from using certain techniques of the Niko Style; the Adamantine Kata especially, however by the final rounds of the Kengan Tournament this is no longer an issue.

Due to the increase of speed Ohma's strikes deal far more damage, being able to damage those he previously struggled to stun.

Despite having a far more vicious fighting style as it is more akin to a berserker, Ohma still retains his skill to strategize like jamming his fingers into Sekibayashi windpipe to knock him out and perform several Kata techniques.

Originally, overusing this technique put great strain on Ohma's heart and even killed him, after intervention by the brilliant Hanafusa Hajime performing a heart transplant and a year of recovery in the Kure Village, Ohma did not only fully recover but learned how to use Advance with thus far zero drawbacks.

Baki Hanma

Baki out of context on Twitter: "BakiOOC Presents: Baki the Grappler Pee Moments… "

Baki's constant drive to train and fight stronger opponents has proven detrimental to his safety at times endangering himself to face an opponent at their best such as when he faced Pickle head on in a test of strength nearly dying. This stems from his pride as a fighter, he refuses pity from an opponent or assistance even if he's in critical condition.

While Baki has shown he can contend against his father, his abilities still aren't quite at Yujiro's level as while he has shown a resistance to poisons it was not to the same as Yujiro who can downright expel bacteria.

Also, if I had a nickel for every time Baki got peed on in a fight I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot but still.

Tokita Ohma

People wanna say that kuroki outclassed ohma SOOOOO much, but honestly look at his arm here after the demonsbane x advance. if that had actually hit him in the face or chest

While Ohma is a remarkable fighter by all accounts mastering the Niko Style and making it to the finals of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, and given the nature of the Niko style Ohma is a jack of trades and ace of none, he's strong but not as strong as Julius or Wakatsuki, he's fast but not as fast as Rei, he's durable but not as durable as Saw Paing, and while incredibly skilled he has been outclassed by more experienced complete fighters like Kuroki.

The Niko Style's Kata may be diverse they can still be predicted and countered by talented enough fighters, and several of his defensive techniques can be overwhelmed through a powerful enough attack.

Summary

Baki Hanma

  • Greater stamina.
  • Likely harder to read due to his instinctive reaction.
  • Demon Face is far less of a risk than Advance and lasts longer.
  • Had a crossover with Predator.

Disadvantages:
  • Has less defensive abilities.
  • Objectively less skilled in grappling.
  • Inferior recovery techniques.
  • Less experience.
  • Inferior reach and lighter being a foot shorter and twenty pounds lighter fucking manlet.

Conclusion

I feel like my hopes for this fight is both high and low, for one this would be a kind of out there fight for Death Battle given neither of these series are super popular in terms of anime/manga series portrayed in Death Battle, while not unpopular per say it isn't the typical MHA, Naruto, Dragon Ball which are instantly recognizable nor does the series have a ton of exposure with video games. BUT Death Battle has had characters with arguably less exposure like Elfen Lied not to mention that these series are getting more exposure with Netflix adaptions, specials with more popular series like Street Fighter and Predator and Rambo, not to mention an apparent crossover between the two series on September 30th.

I also strongly believe that this would be the best match-up for both of these series, I have heard of some talk of Yujiro Vs Akuma but frankly, I think there are simply better matchups for Akuma like Raoh.

But who would win this match-up? Baki cause he had sex

While Ohma is more capable than I thought, with even being in the possible city-block level of strengths he simply isn't able to contend with the absurdity of the Baki series.

Most of Kengan highest feats cap out somewhere in the building level of ap, and despite Ohma being one of the most capable fighters in the series he still doesn't quite reach the same levels of physical strength of the likes of Wakatsuki, Julius, or Fang as he specializes in being an all-around fighter.

And while there is the supposed small-town level honestly I'm not quite sure how viable of a feat that is given the context. The feat supposedly is Ohma and Wakatsuki shaking the dome during this fight but the thing is I'm not quite sure if the dome even shakes during it. It apparently shakes here but I'm not sure if that is a visual indicator of the dome shaking such as when Julius and Wakastsuki shook it or when Julius and Toa caused a shockwave, not only that but throughout the fight Wakastuki was shown to have a much higher edge in strength and would likely contribute more to the dome shaking.

But let's be fair and overshoot Ohma, even with this feat it still isn't close to what Baki is capable of, with him body-slamming himself into a wall so hard he created an earthquake felt across town putting him from anywhere between 2 kilotons to 15 kilotons, already dwarfing Ohma's 1.54 kiloton feat.

Not to mention the Baki universe has far more earthquake feats to draw off to make this one viable, many of which Baki compares to, such as Yujiro stopping a big earthquake with a single punch, shaking the Ratai arena, Sukune causing a town-wide earthquake with a stomp, Biscuit Oliva swinging Doyle around so hard it shook a police station, Yujiro shaking a skyscraper with his aura, or Pickle's roar shaking the Tokyo Dome, or Oliva slamming someone so hard into the ground it ALTERED THE EARTH OUT OF PLACE BY A FEW INCHES. Now that last is considered to be a bit of an outlier for the series but you get my point Baki has an overwhelming edge when it comes to strength.

A lot of this comes from the fact that while Ohma technically has more experience than Baki with him being in his late twenties and fighting from a younger age, there are simply more feats to pull from when it comes to Baki given that the series has been ongoing for over thirty years as oppose to Kengan's much shorter run.

Speed is another category Baki takes rather easily with Kengan fighters capping out around Mach 8 and while Baki doesn't have as many speed feats as strength feats it still has Yujiro being able to outmaneuver lighting, Kaku one of the most knowledgeable fighters in the series stating to move 1000 miles per minute, Baki himself moving so fast he is perceived as invisible, and Yujiro very casually appearing to be invisible to others. Putting Baki anywhere from Mach 70 to Mach 360.

So yeah, Ohma is facing a pretty uphill battle already without even getting into abilities and fighting styles.

In terms of martial arts and ability, this gets interesting as Baki himself doesn't have a straight fighting style he uses, rather he uses a series of techniques and skills he either replicated or created while Ohma uses the Niko Style, while both have their perks the Niko style simply won't cut it.

For one Baki has faced and defeated those with similar techniques, such as Kureha who by stiffing his muscles he could harden his body for both offensive and defensive means, which Baki broke through, Baki also faced the far more advanced ORB technique by Biscuit Oliva which he countered by stuffing his fingers into his nostrils. Baki also has plenty of experience dealing with evasive maneuvers that also use afterimages such often outdoing said opponent. Many of Ohma's techniques have limits such as the amount of damage a his Redirection Kata can negate or throw off balance and given Baki's incredible skill and far greater power this will likely be the case with him.

There is also the fact that it is very possible that Baki can figure out and downright replicate the same attacks of the Niko Style, as Baki can deduce, break down, and figure out various fighting styles and techniques even if the person doesn't know what they're doing. And while the Niko Style does have application not seen by Baki, other Hanma family members like Yujiro can completely understand and master fighting styles after seeing them once or not at all.

Meanwhile, Ohma doesn't have a ton of ways to counter Baki's cord-cutter, Benda, or Baki's more powerful attacks.

Speaking of which lets talk ace in the holes.

Ohma's best moves that could possibly turn this fight around is Chi Blockage and Demonsbane. While Ohma's Chi Blockage can in theory ignore durability and destroy his nervous system but there are a few issues with this, for one, Ohma has only shown to use this once on an already defeated opponent making it very unlikely he could do the same to the much faster Baki, secondly Baki has overcome the effects of similar attacks such as Kureha Dashin which create an explosion of shock waves through the entire body or Yanagi's poison which ate away at his entire body. Baki has also learned to counter exhaustion and internal bleeding through his knowledge of the human body and it is very likely he could do the same here. And lastly even if this does work, Baki has simply willed himself back to life before.

While the Demonsbane is remarkably powerful as well, it has a few faults, such as needing to performed perfectly and if not the user gets damaged, can only be performed near death, and lastly even if pulled off it doesn't guarantee to defeat the opponent such as with Kuroki.

The only big attack Baki has that can possibly backfire to the same degree would be his Mach Punch, but even then its only if he overuses said attack, the Cockroach Dash is not only incredibly powerful and fast capable of catching Yujiro off guard but it can be performed relatively easily same goes for Aiki, or Baki's Triceratops fist the latter of which is capable of casting an illusion.

Speaking of this is another area Baki simply trounces Ohma, Ohma has only been able to intimidate simple thugs or low tier fighters with his aura and his imagination is more for training. Baki is capable of making full-on illusions with his aura and imagination to the point it can minimal affect the physical world and can fool even master martial artists even Yujiro who goes out of his way to not show he doesn't believe in Ki or illusions

And finally, transformations honestly not a ton to add other than despite both being state boosters, Baki's is far safer as it doesn't put strain on his heart and has the added bonus of absorbing more hits reducing the damage he will take in.

See what I mean when I said this was an uphill battle for Ohma? I tried finding advantages he had, something that could make this a bit more even of a fight but all of Ohma's advantages are small to completely meaningless. His Marionette can replenish his stamina? Well, Baki has far more stamina in general fighting for hours at a time. Ohma is heavier and has better reach? Well, Baki goes up against those kinds of opponents all the time. Ohma is better at grappling? I doubt this fight will end up in a grappling match as Ohma only really relied on it in his fight with Cosmo who focuses far more on grappling.

This was a fun fight to research but at the end of the day, Baki Hanma wins, Orge and Orge again.
